Docile - Babylon Ablaze
Docile is a relatively young band that formed in 2005. The members are only 19-21 years old and considering the fact that they have been confirmed to play a festival in Ukraine soon, these youngsters know how to handle their instruments. Get ready for some Dutch metal!
Honestly, this album disappointed me a little bit. When I first listened to the MySpace website of this band I heard some very interesting things going on. But after listening to this EP a couple of times, I’m a bit disappointed by the amount of originality it comprises. The music on itself - a kind of (melodic) death metal hodgepodge - isn’t really bad but I wouldn’t say it’s stunningly surprising either. As goes for the vocals, the screams and grunts are professional enough, but again, they lack true originality.
What you can expect here is quite decent (melodic) death metal with a thick sound and quite a decent production as well. The point is, the melodies never seem to step away from their a-bit-too-standard pattern, which makes the whole thing a little predictable. Doesn’t mean it’s heavy music though, ‘cause there’s plenty of that left!
Taking in consideration that this band only recently started and that the guys are still quite young, I’d say they have a good chance of getting somewhere after all. This EP can be seen as a nice start but hopefully they’ll be experimenting some more on their upcoming effort. I definitely see potential in this band. Rock on guys!
